Cambridge College Honorary Degree Recipient Alberto Vasallo is one of 8 Latino Leaders being recognized in the Latino Pioneers of Boston documentary project/magazine, and featured in a display at Boston City Hall.

September 23rd marked the grand opening of the exhibit, where Vanessa Calderon-Rosado, CEO of Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA), also one of the honorary degree recipients, was one of the speakers.

The documentary will be released in late October/early November.

Alberto grew up in Cuba. Here’s an excerpt from his story: “By the time I was 24 years old, Havana was no longer like it had been in my childhood. We were forced to escape in search of freedom. But my mother and I were caught and became political prisoners. The second time I escaped in a boat and made it to Key West where I was welcomed as a refugee….”
