Faculty and Student Rights and Responsibilities – Disability Services

Students at Cambridge College with a documented disability have the right to:

  • reasonable accommodations as prescribed by law.
  • equal access to education, programs, services, jobs, activities, and facilities.
  • confidentiality regarding the nature of their disability and records provided to the Office of Disability Services.

Students at Cambridge College with a documented disability have a responsibility to:

  • meet requirements for courses, programs, services, and activities as established by the College.
  • abide by the College’s Code of Conduct.
  • self-identify to the Office of Disability Services as an individual with a disability.
  • provide documentation of a disability from a qualified professional.
  • request an accommodation in a timely manner.
  • notify the Office of Disability Services in a timely manner if there is a problem with an accommodation. 
  • follow published procedures for obtaining reasonable accommodations, academic adjustments, and auxiliary aids or services.
  • regularly check their College email account and reply to communications from the Office of Disability Services.
  • inform the Office of Disability Services of any changes in their schedule and request accommodations for newly added classes.

Faculty at Cambridge College have the right to:

  • receive written notice of a student's accommodation.
  • determine course content, and teaching methods, and assessment methods, and ensure that standards in their course are not lowered or compromised. 
  • communicate with the Office of Disability Services if they believe that a specific accommodation request is inappropriate for the course, or if the nature of the accommodation would alter the essential requirements of a course and collaborate to identify an alternative accommodation for the student.

Faculty at Cambridge College have the responsibility to:

  • provide approved accommodations together with the Office of Disability Services.
  • respect student confidentiality.
  • learn about disability policies and procedures, and cooperate with the coordination of services.
  • familiarize themselves with the accommodations for each student and reach out to the Office of Disability Support to clarify any questions about accommodations or services.
  • modify instruction to allow for the accommodations to be implemented as described in the accommodation letter.
  • provide handouts, notes, or other materials related to their class, when requested from the Office of Disability Services, in a timely manner.
  • regularly check Cambridge College email and reply to communications from the Office of Disability Services in a timely manner.
