With two children to support as a single parent, Sandra Ramoutar faced a great deal of adversity in her years before studying at Cambridge College. Originally from Trinidad, Sandra had little formal education, but ample amounts of work experience.

Mrs. Lee was a special education teacher in need of completing her endorsement and Mr. Lee was a retired policeman who was looking to develop a new career after a medical condition left him using a wheelchair.

It was during one of these trips home that the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010, struck Haiti. Jean was on the 6th floor of a parking garage at that time and he had just gone down to the 2nd floor to meet a relative.

In my senior year of high school I found out I was pregnant. I had my acceptance letter from a local university in one hand and a baby bottle in the other.

Building relationships with the other students in the cohort enabled me to more readily apply the skills we were learning.
