Special Projects Assistant to the President Job Description

Job Summary

The Special Projects Assistant to the President will play a critical role at the College by providing exceptional project management support to the President to ensure that the President’s extensive projects are moved from conceptualization to completion. The Special Projects Assistant to the President will manage key projects and deliverables to support the President and propel these initiatives across the organization to successful completion. S/he will coordinate all phases of project management including planning, executing, monitoring and closing. The Special Projects Assistant to the President will work closely with the President on communications and correspondence and will serve as a liaison on key initiatives with strategic partners both within and outside of the organization. This is an administrative role that operates closely with and at the direction of the President with a range of staff responsibilities.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Supports the President on future focused and high-priority College initiatives and handles assigned projects.
  • Supports the launch of the Institute for Women’s Advancement for the College.
  • Serves as a liaison for the President for a variety of internal and external constituencies including state and national legislative bodies.
  • In cooperation with the president, executive leadership council, staff and faculty, provides support for strategic planning and analysis, including preparation of the strategic plan document.
  • Researches, compiles and prepares various data for reports and analysis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Training

A bachelor’s degree required.


  • A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience with some experience as a member of the executive management team in either a higher education or for-profit environment.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience with project management and project reporting.

  • The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills as well as the ability to work well with all members of a diverse college community.
  • He or she will have experience working with senior executives, and will have excellent computer, organizational, and administrative skills.

  • Superior writing and proofreading skills. Ability to synthesize writing from various writers into one writing with one voice. Superior speechwriting skills. 
  • Excellent speaking and presentation skills.

  • Excellent ability to work appropriately with confidential and/or sensitive information.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and balance multiple priorities while maintaining a positive outlook and to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Thoroughness, accuracy, and timeliness in completing essential duties.  Extremely detail-oriented.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently as well as in a team setting; ability to effectively receive supervisory direction.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships, professional rapport, and effectively accomplish work within a University setting that includes a wide array of policies, processes, individuals, and groups.

  • Proficiency with computers, technology devices, software, and applications. Ability to learn and use new technologies, software, and applications at level of proficiency appropriate for the position's duties.
