Middle school students receive gifts from Massachusetts students

Danielle Petrucci's class assist PR middle school studentsIn late November, Danielle Petrucci, a Cambridge College graduate who serves on the Advisory Board for ESE Licensure Programs had an idea. She was in a meeting where the dire situation in Puerto Rico came up. After the meeting she approached Interim Provost Gilda Gely to put her idea in motion. She explained that her students had wanted to connect to a school in Puerto Rico to send items, given the hurricane’s devastation. Gilda put her in contact with CC Regional Center Director Santiago Mendez who immediately worked with the Puerto Rico Department of Education to identify low-income middle school students who would greatly benefit from such assistance.

Petrucci and her students sent gifts, including 9 solar lamps, and Dr. Mendez and his team from CC-Puerto Rico delivered them to the students, along with snacks and emergency first aid packs from FEMA.  The former Secretary of the PR Department of Education, Rafael Román, current Pretechnical Middle School Director, and his school staff coordinated and received the Cambridge College team. The children were most appreciative of the gifts.

A heartfelt thanks to Danielle Petrucci and her students for their initiative and kindness.
