Data Analyst Job Description

Job Summary

The purpose of the Office of Research Planning and Effectiveness (RPE) is to create quality research, strategy and analysis to sustain institutional self-knowledge and data‑informed decision-making. RPE is responsible for providing accurate and meaningful information and analyses to inform decision-makers, stakeholders, regulators, and the public.

The Data Analyst supports the growing demand and scope of the office. Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research and Compliance, the Data Analyst provides data coordination, data collection and analysis, and summary reporting in support of institutional research, planning and decision support. The Data Analyst is responsible for supporting quality research, strategy and analysis to institutional decision-makers and other stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Extract, compile, analyze and report institutional data on students, faculty, staff, courses and other aspects of the College as requested.
  • Analyze the validity, reliability and accuracy of institutional data in the College's Student Information System and other related databases.
  • Serve as an office contact for most internal and external requests for data or information.
  • Coordinate and complete ad-hoc institutional data requests and requests for data from local, state and federal government agencies (e.g. IPEDS) and accrediting agencies (e.g. NECHE).
  • Manage and complete the Common Data Set Initiative file.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the College's Fact Book.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of data visualizations/dashboards.
  • Assist in appropriate qualitative and quantitative statistical analyses when working with data and highlighting key findings and communicating implications.
  • Conduct semester statistical analyses and reports on student retention, enrollment and graduation management.
  • Collaborate with data experts across campus/regional centers to collect data and provide context when reporting.
  • Develop and maintain selected office databases and document libraries to ensure high data quality and completeness of procedures.
  • Participate in College committees designed to improve the quality of service to students and community.
  • Participate in professional organizations, conferences and workshops to stay informed of current practices and research related to position.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update office website(s) with related institutional research and assessment information.
  • Data entry
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree is required with preference given to a candidate with strong research training and coursework in quantitative analysis in the social & behavioral sciences or related fields, statistics, mathematics, computer applications, or business.
  • 1-2 years of higher education, data analysis or other related field experience.
  • Higher education experience preferred.
  • Experience with computer databases and quantitative analytical tools, such asSPSS
  • Prior experience and knowledge with Jenzabar or similar system and Salesforceis a plus.
  • Intermediate knowledge and skills in the design and implementation of quantitative and qualitative research.

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required; Ability to communicatewith technical and non-technical staff.
  • Ability to work independently and interact collaboratively and cultivatepartnerships with other offices.
  • Ability to manage multiple requests and projects simultaneously and establish priorities and meet required deadlines in a fast paced environment.
