Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research and Analytics, the Assistant Director of Institutional Research and Compliance is a key member of the College’s Strategic Enrollment Management Team. The Assistant Director is responsible for internal data collection, management, analysis and reporting in support of the institution’s strategic planning, decision-making and operations.  The Assistant Director will be responsible for supervising the Institutional Research Analyst.

The Assistant Director coordinates both internal and external data and analytics requests, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.  Working collaboratively across the institution, the Assistant Director will focus on survey design and deployment, institutional data collection and analysis, and student outcomes including student retention, graduation and alumni progression.

The Assistant Director will work directly with the Vice President of Innovation and Strategic Initiatives and oversee compliance reporting related to federal, state, institutional and program accreditation, to include but not limited to the Integrated Post-Secondary Data System reports, Title II reporting,  NC-SARA reporting, Massachusetts Department of Higher Education Reporting, Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Reporting, California Bureau of Private Post-Secondary Education, Puerto Rico Council of Education, New England Commission of Higher Education Reporting and Veteran’s Administration reporting among others.

Essential Duties

  • Support the Director in preparing and managing institutional data to identify, analyze, and present trends related to enrollment, retention, graduation, demographics, student outcomes and other measures as needed.
  • Leads data warehouse development and maintenance, including collaborating with campus end users in managing data definitions.
  • Develops queries to manipulate the data into the format needed (reports or dashboards), particularly within the data warehouse.
  • Oversee the development, administration, analysis, and reporting of college-level surveys and development of key performance metrics.
  • Completes and supports formal and ad-hoc data requests; and utilizes statistical methods such as descriptive and inferential statistics including multiple and logistics regression.
  • Provide data that assists in the development and evaluation of institutional grants and contracts.
  • Identifies data quality issues and works with appropriate staff to resolve issues and processes as needed.
  • Creates and maintains required policies and procedures around data use and data analysis.
  • Ensures that the university is compliant with rules governing institutional data collection set forth by various external reporting agencies such as IPEDS and other required reporting.
  • Remains current in industry best practices through membership in and collaboration with professional organizations.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in continuing education courses, professional organizations, seminars and workshops, reading current literature and maintaining professional contacts in the community.


  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience in survey design and quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Knowledge and understanding of key concepts in higher education
  • Experience with extracting data from CRM and Enterprise Systems (Salesforce and Jenzabar a plus)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, project planning and implementation skills
  • Well organized with strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail, accuracy of work, and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Must be an intermediate/advanced user of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Must have experience with survey software
  • Must have experience utilizing quantitative statistical software packages such as SPSS and qualitative packages such as NVivo qualitative data analysis software
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Well-developed data visualization and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate complex and technical information in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to maintain accuracy in working with data and complex statistical information
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and collegial working relationships with diverse faculty and staff members
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with little direction and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to work well in a multicultural and diverse environment

Education Required

Master’s Degree required, 2-3 years experience in an Institutional Research Office Required.

Physical Effort Required

The candidate is required to be mobile and occasionally lift and/or move to 40-50 pounds.
