Admissions Counselor for Springfield Community Engagement Job Description

Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Springfield Regional Center, the Admissions Counselor for Springfield Community Engagement represents Cambridge College to prospective students and organizations to increase inquiries/convert applications into enrolled students.  The successful admissions counselor exhibits superior customer service skills and professionalism throughout daily interactions and communications with students including interviews, phone calls, emails and information sessions.  The counselor creates and implements recruitment strategies to reach prospective students through events, referrals, online and print communications, and outreaches to businesses and organizations.  The admissions counselor must demonstrate an ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with team members, faculty, students, alumni, administrators and staff.  Cambridge College is an institution that for over 45 years has effectively served a student body that is diverse, with over 55% students-of-color and 70% women.  As such, an effective admissions counselor should enjoy working for and with, a diverse array of people, is enthusiastic about the mission of the College and about education and exhibits superior customer service skills and professionalism throughout daily interactions and communications with prospective students including interviews, phone calls, emails and information sessions. A flexible work schedule that will include days, evenings, and some weekends is required.  Travel, valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Create an individual recruitment plan for each semester as well as participate in the creation of a team recruitment plan.  The plan includes recruitment activities, participation in events/conferences/fairs, communications with prospective students and networking opportunities. 
  • Complete weekly activity report to include documentation of recruitment/outreach activities and student appointments.
  • Provide prospective students with information about academic programs, educator licensure, admissions requirements, and financial aid options.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and meet quantified enrollment goals.
  • Participate in events prior, during and after each term such as information sessions, orientations, registration events and graduation.
  • Utilize phone, email, and mail to communicate with prospective students in a timely manner, providing superior student service.
  • Collaborate with our growing alumni network to develop new student/professional networks, garner student referrals.  Attend training sessions to receive updated information about new programs, services, educator licensure requirements, etc. 
  • Ability to follow directions and complete tasks accurately as well as accept supervisory input and constructive criticism.
  • Ability to follow the expectation of treating fellow employees, students and the institution’s guests with civility and kindness; and to refrain from activities that disrupt the efficient functioning of the college.
  • Ability to manage stress and work under pressure while multi-tasking under deadlines.
  • Collaborates with the College’s academic, business, financial aid and registrar’s offices to address student inquiries and to appropriately direct student requests for services.
  • Utilize a JRM (Salesforce) to track all recruitment data including outreaches for all appropriate organizations.
  •  Responsible for liaising with Spanish-facing non-profits and community organizations.
  • Responsible for presenting to non-profits and community groups.
  • Responsible for outreach to community colleges and transfer students.
  • Will be cross-trained and offer office coverage.
  • Hosts events on campus for the constituent groups.
  • Responsible for creating marketing materials and collateral – print and social media – to capture the attention of the Spanish-speaking community in Springfield.
  • Assists with re-admission campaigns to bring stopped out students back to Springfield campus.
  • Engages high schools in Springfield, as appropriate, to grow enrollments.
  • Expands and manages CC Springfield social media accounts.

Education & Experience Required

  • Ideal candidate is required to be bi-lingual in English and Spanish and would come from and live in Springfield and be well-versed in the community and opportunities.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university, or 5-years or more of sales experience. Strong sales background and people skills preferred, background in customer service, sales, marketing, and higher education are beneficial.  Demonstrated experience working with or ethnically socially diverse audiences or within such communities.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret university procedures, general information, educational and professional publications, synodical procedures, and/or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of staff, faculty, administration, students, families, and/or the general public
  • Bilingual fluency in the following – Spanish and English

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to appreciate and respect the perspective and needs of varying racial, ethnic, religious and social groups in performing outreach and providing services to prospective and current students

Computer Skills

  • Facility with MS Office Suite, social media and marketing via the Internet as a tool;
  • Ability to work within a CRM to manage personal goals and outreach to prospective students
  • Ability to build relationships with students and determine the correct program fit for students' career and personal goals and follow them through the enrollment process; Experience working with adult population preferred; Professional attire and personal presentation required daily

Physical Effort Required

The candidate is required to be mobile and occasionally lift and/or move to 40-50 pounds.
