Summary of Benefits

Cambridge College offers competitive salaries and a broad range of benefits designed to promote the health and general well-being of its Faculty and Staff.  In addition to comprehensive health and dental insurance plans, the College provides a generous number of paid holidays, vacation, personal days and sick days. The following is a summary of the College’s benefits programs and is not intended to be all encompassing. More detailed information is provided in the packets pertaining to the various benefits plans are located in the Office of Human Resources. 

Health Benefits

The College offers Tufts Health Plan insurance products with a choice of HMO, PPO and PPO Saver (HSA Eligible). Out of state employees have an option of the PPO and PPO Saver (HSA Eligible). A premium rate sheet is provided at the time of the benefits orientation. During the annual Open Enrollment period in May, Faculty and Staff may enroll for or change coverage. Faculty and Staff may not change, add or select new coverage at any other time during the plan year unless there is a qualifying event, such as a marriage, birth/adoption, and loss of spouse coverage, eligibility for assistance under a Medicaid Plan or a state Children’s Health Insurance Program Plan. For more information on qualifying events or if a change in family status occurs, please contact the Human Resources Generalist within 30 days of the qualifying event.

Dental Benefits

The College offers dental coverage with Delta Dental.  The plan focuses on preventative care and provides a wide range of dental services and participating dentists.

TIAA Pension Plan & Tax-Deferred Annuity (TDA)

The College makes an 8% contribution to fund your retirement. Eligibility may vary according to length of service, bargaining unit contract provisions and non-bargaining unit employee status.

All Faculty and Staff are permitted to set aside tax-deferred retirement funds. These voluntary salary reductions are sheltered from Federal and State taxes. Enrollment instructions and salary reduction agreement forms are available in the Office of Human Resources.

Life Insurance/Accidental Death & Dismemberment (ADD)

The College provides to its benefits eligible Faculty and Staff, at no cost, Life and AD&D insurance to be paid in the event of accidental death or dismemberment at the rate of three (3) times the annual base salary. Benefit value maximum is $150,000.

Long-Term Disability Insurance

The College provides to its benefits-eligible Faculty and Staff, at no cost, Long-Term Disability insurance. After an elimination period of 90 days, you may receive, upon approval, a monthly benefit equal to 60% of the annual base salary or up to $10,000 maximum with a tax free benefit option.

Worker's Compensation Insurance

All Faculty and Staff are eligible for Worker’s Compensation insurance, which covers, if approved, medical costs and loss of wages if an injury occurs while at work or away on College business.

Flexible Spending Accounts: WageWorks

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) allow benefits-eligible Faculty and Staff to use pre-taxed dollars to pay for qualified out-of-pocket medical/dental care expenses and/or qualified dependent care expenses. By using pre-tax payroll dollars for these expenses, you can reduce your tax liability and save money. The IRS regulates these accounts and specific guidelines may apply.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

This is a tax-advantaged medical savings account available to benefits-eligible Faculty and Staff. The funds contributed to an account are not subject to federal income tax at the time of deposit.

Paid Time Off

A. Non-Union benefits-eligible employees: accrue 20 days of vacation, 18 days of sick and 3 days of personal time. At the end of the fiscal year, up to 5 days of vacation may be carried over into the new fiscal year. Unused sick time may be carried over but no employee may accrue more than 65 days. Part time benefit eligible employees will earn sick and vacation time on a pro-rated basis.

Staff Union Employees: as per contract.
MLA Union Employees: as per contract.

B.  Accrual Rate

Full-time, Non-Union Employees: accrue earned time at the rate of 1.68 days of vacation (11.67 hours) and 1.5 days of sick (10.5 hours) at the conclusion of each month worked.
Staff Union Employees: accrue as per contract.
MLA Union Employees: accrue as per contract.

Part-time Employees: accrue earned time on a pro-rated basis.

Temporary: are not eligible to accrue earned time.

Personal Days

Non-Union benefits-eligible, Staff Union and MLA Union employees: are eligible to use up to 3 personal days for personal needs.

Tuition

All benefits-eligible Faculty and Staff (spouse & children) receive free tuition after one year of employment.

Holidays

Faculty and Staff receive 13 paid holidays each year, as well as the winter break in December.

Parking Reimbursement

Faculty: $300 per semester

Staff Union: $300 per semester-reimbursed with proof of receipts

MLAs: Onsite parking is free.

MBTA Passes

Commuter passes may be purchased through the Office of Human Resources using your parking or transportation reimbursement allowance.  Any pass ordered or changed must be submitted in writing no later than the 3rd day of the month to HR. Costs of commuter passes not purchased through the Office of Human Resources can be reimbursed up to $100.

Professional Development

The amount varies according to bargaining unit contract provisions and the current professional development policy.

Direct Deposit

All Faculty and Staff may have their paycheck directly deposited into up to three (3) accounts.  A copy of a check or savings account passbook deposit slip with bank routing in number must be submitted.

Voluntary Benefits Plans

The College offers voluntary benefit plans.

  • UNUM provides Voluntary Short Term Disability, Accident, and Critical Illness and Voluntary Life and AD&D up to $500,000 with a guarantee issue of $100,000; Voluntary Life for Spouse and/or child(ren)
  • Metropolitan Life Insurance provides Legal Services
  • Vision Care Insurance through VSP
  • Nationwide Pet Insurance
