Senior Human Resources Generalist Job Description

Job Summary

The senior human resource generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the Director of Human Resources in supporting the designated geographic regions. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, and employment law compliance.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for all policies, procedures and programs relating to human resources, i.e. employment, personnel policies and procedures, associate records, medical, management development, training, exempt and non-exempt salary administration
  • Oversee all administration of human resource functions, which includes benefits administration, retirement, safety, worker’s compensation, unemployment, and new employee orientation
  • Provide advice and counsel to managers and employees across entire range of employee relations and organizational matters including performance management, labor relations, corrective actions, dispute resolution, compensation and classification, recruitment and retention, and organizational structure and staffing
  • Assist Director of Human Resources with investigations, as appropriate, to a wide variety of sensitive and complex internal or external inquiries, issues, complaints, and/or grievances
  • Conduct recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt personnel, interns and temporary employees; conducts new-employee orientations; and write and place advertisements, as needed
  • Conduct incident/injury investigations
  • Responsible for human resources records/reports and handle various audits on an annual basis
  • Maintain human resource information system records and compile reports from the database
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations
  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives and systems
  • Participate in administrative staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.


Little travel is expected for this position.


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience
  • Must have knowledge of human resources policies and procedures and their application in the day-to-day working environment and familiarity with applicable state and federal laws
  • Maintain excellent communication and relationships with others; be a team player and work collaboratively with others; maintain a positive attitude
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects at the same time with limited supervision; excellent planning, organizational skills, time management, multi-tasking and decision-making skills
