Grant Writer Consultant

Job Summary

Cambridge College is seeking a highly-motivated, hardworking individual to serve as a grant writer consultant for the Office of Institutional Advancement. S/he will be responsible for taking project design input from various internal staff experts and crafting it into a compelling proposal. The primary role of this consultant is to organize, write, and finalize the proposal in a clear and compelling manner.

A critical component of this position is the ability to work within a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and complex environment where multiple leaders influence and drive the proposal process.

Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly-organized.  Candidates must possess an ability to work well under pressure and the ability to seek and synthesize information and communicate in a compelling and succinct form.

Essential Duties/ Responsibilities

  • In coordination with Academic Affairs and Advancement staff, serve as lead grant writer and finalize the written form, with an eye towards being optimally competitive and attractive to the donor
  • Serve as primary author of the proposal, ensuring overall cohesion and “one voice” when incorporating into the master document
  • Collaborate with and support the Advancement office to ensure overall quality, final compilation and timely submission with minimal confusion and maximum success
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, intercultural and facilitation skills
  • Capacity to collaborate with internal staff at multiple levels
  • Strong writing skills and proven capacity to multi-task and effectively manage frequent deadlines
  • Proven team leadership skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven success in writing proposals for RFPs and for Foundation priority areas
  • Requires an acute understanding of the College’s needs, as well as effective relationship management with stakeholders to fully understand and articulate the proposed project
  • Apply proposal development best-practices and maintain schedule discipline

Education & Experience Required

  • BA or BS degree
  • 5+ years of proposal writing experience within higher education
