Terrence Boylan, Senior Instructor

Dr. Boylan as been a member of the Cambridge College faculty since 2003 and currently teaches in the CAGS program. Throughout his career as an educator, he has been a classroom teacher, school principal, director of early childhood education, and consultant. Some of his accomplishments include developing programs in special education and giftedness, and introducing a number of grants and innovative programs to meet the many challenges in the schools. Dr. Boylan works with a non-profit program dealing with diverse disabilities of young and older adults. He is responsible for developing, staffing and teaching many of the programs. Additionally, he has a career coaching practice and is involved with a number of community programs in the Arts.

Sandra D. Bridwell, Professor

Dr. Bridwell comes to Cambridge College from post-doctoral studies at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and Graduate School of Education. She is a recipient of the 2006 College Medal and is Professor and co-founding faculty of the doctoral program in educational leadership, in which she teaches and advises doctoral students. Her work focuses on issues of social justice for women and under-represented populations. She serves on the Board of Trustees for the Boston Women’s Fund and is an evaluator for the Harvard Ash Institute Innovations in State and Local Government Award. Her research interests include adult learning and development, transformational learning, school leadership, and literacy. She is author of a forthcoming publication Making Adult Development Theory More Inclusive: a Marginalized Learner’s Epistemological Perspective.

Dr. Buckley is Principal/Partner of Edclectics, LLC, a leadership consulting organization specializing in developing and sustaining leadership, culture building and change, diversity training, and educational executive searches. A retired superintendent of Bedford Public Schools, he currently works with the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents (MASS) to provide coaching and mentoring services to new school superintendents.

Kathleen Buckley, Senior Instructor

Dr. Buckley spent 33 years in public schools as a teacher, principal and assistant superintendent. She has also worked in distance learning as the project director of the Massachusetts Corporation for Educational Telecommunications’ (MCET) U.S. Department of Education Star Schools research grant. This $9.5 million dollar grant, one of thirteen in the country, examined the role of technology in the development of literacy skills. She has served as a union president and co-chair of the Board of Advisors at the Principals’ Center at Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is also a member of the advisory board for the National Center for School Leadership at Harvard. Dr. Buckley also consults with a number of school systems in the areas of teacher leadership, administrator development, the change process, mentoring and peer coaching.

  N. Alan Sheppard, Interim Associate Dean and Director, Educational Leadership Programs for the School of Education                                                                                      Ph.D., The Ohio State University

 

Dr. Sheppard is Associate Dean of Cambridge’s School of Education.  His employment began at Cambridge on December 9, 2009.  Prior to joining Cambridge College, Dr. Sheppard served as Dean of the Graduate School at Alabama State University, Montgomery Alabama.  Additionally, higher education experiences include Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of Administration, and Dean of Education and Urban Studies.  He has published in a number of refereed and non- refereed journals, magazines, and monographs, edited and authored book chapters; and, written national commissioned papers.  He is a former editorial board member for the Journal of Vocational Education Research and The Educational Gerontology Journal.  Additionally, he served as the National Chair of Researchers for Action (10 years), a Special Interest group of the American Educational Research Association and member, Board of Dissertation Readers and Advisors, Walden University.  Finally, Dr. Sheppard has been cited for his teaching excellence by being awarded several excellence in teaching award as well as awards for excellence in research and public service.

David Flynn, Senior Instructor

Dr. Flynn is the Director of the Commission on Public Elementary and Middle Schools for the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. During the ten years of this directorship, Dr. Flynn has worked with elementary and middle schools throughout the six state region to develop a comprehensive, internally initiated self study, prepare the school for an external peer review process and develop a five year follow-up action plan. He has also worked with international schools in a wide range of overseas countries. Dr. Flynn has also served the educational community for 30 years as a teacher of English, assistant principal and principal in Framingham, Mendon-Upton, Bellingham and Marlborough and school superintendent for thirteen years in the city of Marlborough.

James Horn, Associate Professor

Dr. Horn comes to Cambridge College with over three decades of experience as a K-12 educator and professor of social foundations and research. He has served as a high school English teacher, librarian, director of media services, and assistant professor of education before his current appointment as Associate Professor in the Ed. D program at Cambridge. He holds licensure as a classroom teacher, librarian, and school administrator. He took his PhD in 1995 and has since published book chapters in refereed volumes, as well as articles and reviews in venues ranging from peer-reviewed academic journals to practitioner newsletters and weblogs. His theoretical research agenda focuses on understanding complexity in educational systems, and his applied research ranges from exploring teacher renewal to understanding the effects of corporate education reform in urban school settings. He is strongly committed to renewing the democratic purposes of public education, and he advocates for the social justice mission of schools here and abroad.

Dr. Kerrigan has worked over 35 years in the field of education, as a as a middle school science teacher, an elementary school counselor, team facilitator in special education, director of special services, and most recently as assistant superintendent of schools. He held this position for eight years focusing on all aspects of school leadership and management. He now teaches and advises in the CAGS program in Cambridge and through NITE and consults to school districts in the areas of mentoring school administrators and program evaluation.

Kathleen Lynch, Senior Instructor and Dissertation Chair

Dr. Kathleen Lynch received her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and completed post-doctoral work at Boston University. She has more than thirty years in education as a Superintendent, Special Education Administrator, Principal and teacher. She has also been a Senior Research Associate with Education Development Center, and a Program Evaluator with a private consulting company. She has worked with districts of all sizes and demographic profiles from large urban districts to small rural districts. Dr. Lynch also has more than thirty years of experience as a faculty member, both full time and adjunct, at colleges and universities nation-wide. Her publications, presentations, and videos cover a range of topics, from the inclusion of special education students to civil rights in schools, education policy analysis, and the socialization of women administrators. Her blog Class Notes explores the dilemmas of school leaders who struggle in the trenches of our schools to meet the needs of every child, while making education more democratic, more equitable and more effective.

Stephen Maio, Associate Professor

Dr. Maio worked in public education for 41 years as a teacher, counselor, principal and superintendent of schools. As superintendent, he served for 22 years in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, while teaching courses in educational administration at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Now retired from public education, he teaches and advises dissertations in the doctoral program at Cambridge College.

Dr. Martin serves as the Superintendent of Schools on a part-time basis in the rural town of Petersham, Massachusetts. She is also involved in a leadership role in technology initiatives for the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents.

Kemoh Salia-Bao, Associate Professor

During his 30 year career, Dr. Salia-Bao has mentored hundreds of students at all levels. He has published over 15 books and authored numerous scholarly articles and technical publications for academic circles and for government and international agencies on a variety of topics, such as educational leadership, curriculum development, history of education, and teacher training. Dr. Salia-Bao has taught a wide range of courses, including education, psychology, philosophy of education, and curriculum theory and development. He has played a critical role in transforming educational systems of various countries from ground up, having served as the secretary of state for the Government of Sierra Leone and Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Liberia. His consulting credits include work with Sierra Leone Institute of Education, Ford Foundation, University of Liberia, Science Education Programme for Africa, UNESCO Missions, and many others.
