Student Health Insurance

If you are a student attending any of our Massachusetts locations, you should be aware of the requirements pertaining to student health insurance.  If you have any questions about the requirements or how to waive out of the insurance, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you.

Who does this pertain to?

Massachusetts law states that students who meet all the following criteria are required to be enrolled in the College’s Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan or participate in a plan with comparable coverage.

  • Attend classes within Massachusetts
  • Are enrolled in a certificate or degree program
  • Are enrolled full-time or three-quarter time (undergraduate: 9 credits or more; graduate: 6 credits or more)

A student’s status as full or three-quarter time is determined as of the last date of the add/drop period.

Students who have insurance with comparable coverage may waive out of the College’s Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan by submitting an annual waiver request by the term deadline. It is the student’s responsibility to determine and certify that their insurance is comparable.

Annual Waiver Request

Students are required to submit an annual waiver request in the first term they are enrolled and every fall term thereafter. Students returning after a leave of absence must submit the waiver request in the term when they return.

To submit the annual waiver request, students must log on to the following website:  www.GallagherKoster.com/Cambridge. If you are having problems logging on or other problems with the website, please contact Gallagher Koster in customer service at 800-457-5599.

The deadline to waive health insurance for the fall 2013 term is September 20th and for the spring 2014 term it is February 6th.

Enrollment and Charges

Students who do not submit an annual waiver request by the deadline are automatically enrolled in and billed for the College’s Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan. The deadline changes each term but is within a week of the last date of the add/drop period for the term. The deadline for the current term is posted on the MyCC web portal homepage.

Students are required to submit an annual waiver request in the first term they are enrolled and every fall term thereafter. Students returning after a leave of absence must submit the waiver request in the term when they return.

Insurance coverage is based on a plan year beginning September 1st and ending August 31st.  Once enrolled, students are covered for the remainder of the plan year.  The cost of insurance is as follows:

  • Fall 2014 (September 2014 - August 2015) $1497
  • Spring 2015 (January 2015 - August 2015)  $1006
  • Summer 2015 (June 2015 - August 2015) $407
