At the age of eight, Maria Valentini-Brito moved to the United States with her family from Italy in search of new opportunities. Like many who have immigrated to the United States, Maria and her family spoke little English, and had little money. After graduating from high school, Maria entered a 10-month business program and received her Executive Secretary Certificate. With this certificate, she was able to establish a successful career in the Human Resources sector for over 20 years. However, as her career advanced, Maria decided she would honor her parents, and become the first in her family to receive a college degree.
This brought Maria to Cambridge College. In the Fall of 2007, she began taking courses towards earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Studies. Like many Cambridge College students, Maria continued to work and raise her family while earning her degree. “My thirst for knowledge has been revived and even strengthened by the experience at Cambridge College,” says Maria.
Being the first in her family to attend college, she was inspired to set a good example for her children and complete her degree. She explains, “I am the first person in my family to graduate from college…but I am determined not to be the last!” Maria graduated from Cambridge College in June 2011, and seeks to continue advancing her career.
