Adjunct Instructor: Writing SOM

Responsibilities

Teach graduate writing course to students in the Master of Business Administration and Master of Management programs. The graduate writing course involves twelve classroom sessions of 3.5 hours each, as well as grading essays and written work. Instructors should be available for student consultation via office hours or scheduled appointments, and are expected to comply with school policies on course administration.

The course is scheduled for  Wednesdays from 6-9.30 pm starting January 25, 2017 at the School of Management, 17 Monsignor O’Brien Highway, Cambridge, MA02141 (across from the Museum of Science).

Job Duties

  • Teach  the assigned course(s) as specified in the schedule and course contract
  • Prepare course materials and lesson plans
  • Provide students an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria
  • Use the College’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students
  • Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered
  • Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions or examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner on student progress
  • Be available for student consultation through office hours or scheduled appointments or by phone or email
  • Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments and grades, submit class rosters and grade sheets by the deadlines established by the College

Education and Experience Required

Candidates should have a Master’s degree and experience teaching written business communication in a corporate or educational setting. Experience in ESL or teaching non-native speakers is helpful.

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Ability to teach grammar, punctuation, syntax, essay and report writing, and presentation skills using engaging methodologies for adult learners.
  • Ability to respond to the needs of learners from a variety of educational backgrounds in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to deliver course outcomes and content through a variety of teaching/learning styles
  • Ability to use technology effectively in teaching
  • Respect for students and a genuine interest in their learning
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Good organizational skills and timeliness in responding to student inquiries
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with students and colleagues

Physical Requirements

  • Communicate orally and in writing to exchange information
  • Operate computers and other office equipment and technology
