VICE PRESIDENT FOR INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT [Posted August 11, 2009]
POSITION SUMMARY: The Vice President for Institutional Advancement (VPIA) reports to the President of the College and is a member of the Leadership Team and the Senior Team. This person oversees all efforts related to fundraising including Alumni Affairs and communications. The VPIA uses creative approaches that strategically position the College for the future. The VPIA works collaboratively with the President in developing and implementing a funding program that is aimed at strengthening annual fund growth, major and special gift initiatives, a college-wide culture of philanthropy, and capital campaign strategies to build an endowment that generates resources to achieve its mission.
Through strategic leadership and personal example, the VPIA will foster collaboration and communication among all units and divisions of the College. This person is expected to work closely with the Board of Trustees, the Advisory Board, major donors, any consultants hired for special projects related to fundraising, and to be visibly engaged and supportive of all events.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: -Responsible for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospective donors and maintain a good working relationship with current donors as necessary to insure the financial stability of the College and its programs.
-Create and manage all materials and events necessary to fulfill funding goals of the College as well as promote the visibility of the College in all arenas.
-Provide an ongoing analysis and implementation of systems to insure effective tracking and reporting of all donor records.
-Responsible for supervising the areas of grant and contract development including research, writing and budget development, as well as all facets of the review, processing, submission, contract/agreement and negotiation as they relate to proposals to foundations, business concerns, organizations and governments.
-Serve as a liaison to the Board of Trustees, the Finance Office and the Financial Aid Office to help develop and implement policies, guidelines and procedures for the disposition of gifts to the College, insuring the efficient and effective compliance of all College policies and procedures affecting capacity building.
-Oversee, create and develop fundraising reports and materials for the President, members of the Board of Trustees, Advisory Board and donors as needed.
-Related responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Masters Degree preferred. This candidate should have a successful track record with progressively responsible experience in leading and managing a development staff, budget management, as well as successful cultivation of major and planned giving
prospects. The candidate must have experience in comprehensive fundraising in a development program preferably with a higher education institution. The candidate should possess excellent interpersonal skills and be skilled in verbal and written communication. Demonstrated experience cultivating and soliciting major gifts and
capital campaign experience are essential. Knowledge of alumni relations, annual giving
programs, prospect management and campaign strategies is required. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, to a team-approach in administration, and to the mission of the College.
